Darren Funk from Hannibal-Lagrange University
Darren Funk is the Director of International Students at Hannibal-LaGrange University in Hannibal, Missouri. First serving as the assistant baseball coach in 2008, he later began his time in the Center for International Students in April 2013. Darren serves the 102 international students on HLGU's campus in a variety of ways including answering admissions questions, issuing visa documents, advising students academically, teaching an ESL class, and simply being a big brother-like figure when students need help with something. His job is most fulfilling when he sees his students growing, no matter if it is academically, socially, athletically, or spiritually. He loves watching the growth of a student from their first semester to the day they receive their degree. Darren resides in rural Liberty, Illinois, with his wife and two children.
Hannibal-LaGrange University is a four-year liberal arts university that was founded in 1858 by the Missouri Baptist Convention. The University offers 34 degree programs at the baccalaureate level including business management, exercise science, and Computer Information Systems. The campus is situated on 110 acres of scenic hills and woods on the bluffs above the Mississippi River, just 100 miles north of St. Louis, Missouri. HLGU's international students, representing 27 countries, account for about 20 percent of the resident student enrollment. For students who do not meet the TOEFL requirement for undergraduate admission, HLGU offers them the opportunity to take ESL courses in their first semester. These courses are designed to prepare students to continue and succeed in their studies at Hannibal-LaGrange. For more information, please visit our International Students page.
